Shugarts and Adams Out for the Season
October 17, 2008 11:00 am EST
The struggling offensive line is due for further complications. Coach Tressel formally announced that Mike Adams and JB Shugarts will be out the rest of the season. Adams suffered a foot injury in the Purdue game and Shugarts has been out for several games due to a shoulder injury.
Also Dan Herron will miss a second game due to the concussion he suffered in the Wisconsin game.
Lawrence Wilson Out for Season
October 15, 2008 9:00 pm EST
Coach Tressel confirmed in his Tuesday press conference that Lawrence Wilson will miss the rest of the season because of the knee injury he suffered in the Purdue game. He will undergo reconstructive surgery soon. Wilson missed basically the entire 2007 after breaking his leg in the opener against Youngstown State. He may be eligible for a medical redshirt for the 2007 injury if they university chooses to pursue this.
Herron & Sanzenbacher will Not Be Back For Purdue
October 7, 2008 6:30 pm EST
Daniel Herron and receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, who both left Saturday's game with a concussion, won't be available for Saturday's 3:30 pm game against Purdue, Tressel said.
"Typically after head injuries, it's at least eight days" before a player can return, he said.
He also confirmed that No.1 tight end Rory Nicol, who missed the Wisconsin game because of an ankle sprain, is out again this week, as are backup linebacker Austin Spitler and backup freshman tackle J.B. Shugarts.
Beanie Gets grade of 'Probable' - Spitler and Rehring Out
September 23, 2008 5:00 pm EST
Coach Tressel said this afternoon running back Chris "Beanie" Wells may be ready for the Big Ten opener against Minnesota Saturday.
"I'm calling him probable," Tressel said at today's media luncheon.
Wells has been out since early in the third quarter of the season-opening win over Youngstown State, when he left with a right foot injury. It was said to be a jammed forefoot. Wells ran well in practice yesterday with no complaints about his foot. It appears that his current issue is his adaptation to a more substantial shoe on his right foot, according to Tressel. It's a stiffer shoe designed both to protect the injured area and prevent sudden extreme flexing of the front part of his foot.
As for other injuries, Austin Spitler and Steve Rehring will be out for this week. No word if they will be ready for the Wisconsin game.
Beanie Downgraded to 'Doubtful for USC Game
September 11, 2008 3:30 pm EST
Coach Jim Tressel said today that running back Chris Wells is doubtful for Saturday night's game at top-ranked Southern California but has not been ruled out totally. Wells, who injured his right foot in the season opener Aug.30, had not practiced until Wednesday, when he took part in the most of the drills. The training staff and medical staff wanted to see whether he was more sore this morning before making a call on his status, and he did not participate in the team's light practice.
"We were hoping he'd wake up this morning and feel even better than yesterday, but that didn't happen," Tressel said at a news conference before the team left for its chartered jet to Los Angeles.
Wells will be on the plane, though, and his right foot -- he suffered what's been called a jammed forefoot affecting primarily the big toe -- will be looked at again Friday and Saturday.
Tressel also said that while defensive tackle Todd Denlinger, recovering from an ankle sprain, would make the trip, backup nickel back Tyler Moeller was left behind, hobbled by an inadvertent leg whip in the Ohio game
Rolle and Beanie the Only Players Not Available Against OU
September 4, 2008 10:00 pm EST
It appears the only player off this week due to injury other than Beanie is Brian Rolle. He is still recovering from the concussion he suffered in the YSU game. Kurt Coleman should be back but Tressel did not say whether or not he would start. Alex Boone has been receiving treatment for an infection on his elbow but will play against the Bobcats.
Beanie is Bootless
September 3, 2008 9:00 am EST
We are not getting anything definitive from the OSU staff and the status of Beanie Wells but Coach Tressel did report that he is 'doubtful' for the game Saturday against Ohio. He has not practiced with the team this week, only receiving treatments for his foot/toe. But he has been seen walking around the facility without his protective boot. Also, in a article from Ken Gordon this morning, of the Columbus Dispatch, Beanie's mom was quoted saying she is very 'optimistic' her son will play this Saturday.
Meanwhile Brian Robiskie left Saturday's opener after landing hard on his tender right shoulder after a touchdown catch. But Tressel said Robiskie is ready to play. He also indicated that Kurt Coleman is practicing this week after missing the opener because of an ankle sprain. Whether Coleman will play against Ohio remains to be seen.
Coleman and Amos to Miss the YSU Game
August 28, 2008 6:30 pm EST
Coach Tressel confirmed today that junior starting safety Kurt Coleman suffered a rolled ankle in practice this week that likely will knock him out of the second-ranked Buckeyes' season opener Saturday against Youngstown State. He also said that backup cornerback Andre Amos will be held out as a precaution, likely leaving Devon Torrence as the primary backup to starters Malcolm Jenkins and Chimdi Chekwa.
Robiskie To Sit Out Scrimmage
August 16, 2008 10:00 am EST
Today's practice will include a scrimmage which normally an opportunity for all players to show where they stand so far this season. Rumors have been circulating for a couple of days now that Brian Robiskie was suffering from a shoulder injury. Previously the Buckeye coaches would not confirm this story but it appears he will be sitting out of the scrimmage today. The only thing that was said was by Offensive Coach Bollman was that he would be ready for Youngstown State on August 30th.
It also appears this has nothing to do with the knee surgery he had during the off-season which kept him out of the spring drills.
Mobley Out for 2008 Season
August 13, 2008 5:30 am EST
Defensive Coordinator Jim Heacock said yesterday defensive freshman Willie Mobley will miss the season because of a shoulder injury. No further details were given at this time, but it is believed this is an injury he had suffered in high school.
