November 3, 2009 6:30 am EST

Devon Barclay will take over place-kicking duties from Aaron Pettrey for the rest of the regular season. Pettrey suffered a torn ligament in his right knee against New Mexico State week and will undergo surgery today.  Depending on his recovery, he may be available for the Buckeye bowl game.

New Mexico State Game Injury Update
October 29, 2009 8:30 pm EST

This would be one game we can rest a few injured players but in reality everyone needs games reps.  The good news is Coach Tressel indicated Brandon Saine would be the starter at tailback in spite of suffering a mild concussion in the Minnesota game.  But we will have another new offensive line blocking for him as both Mike Adams and Justin Boren will miss the game due to injuries.  Cornell may go back to center against the Aggie's.

Purdue Game Injury Update
October 13, 2009 4:30 pm EST

In today's press conference Coach Tressel did not give an update on the medical status of Jaamal Berry.  One would think he is getting very close to red-shirt status.  However, he did mention that Dan Herron would be out as he has re-injured his ankle during his brief appearance in the Wisconsin game.

Fortunately Andrew Miller and Jim Cordle will be back in action, whether they will be start remains to be seen, but the offensive line will look forward to the additional depth.

September 17, 2009 11:30 am EST

The team announced today that Jim Cordle will be out 3-4 weeks due to an ankle injury.  It appears that JB Shugarts will get the start in his place for Toledo.

Small Out Due to Illness
September 4, 2009 11:30 pm EST

Just when we are hearing that Ray Small is working his way out of the doghouse, he has another setback.  The team announced that Small will miss the opening game against Navy due to illness.  IS he truly sick, or is the coaching staff sick of dealing with the punt returning senior?

Justin Boren Injured in Practice
August 15, 2009 9:00 am EST

Thursday night, Justin Boren was telling the media how good he was feeling in practice and how much he was looking forward to hitting the playing field after sitting out a year following his transfer from Michigan.  Yesterday word out of practice camp is that Boren suffered a minor knee injury.  Ohio State has not issued an official statement on his condition but sources indicate he should be ready for the season opener against Navy.

Moeller Out for Season
August 11, 2009 6:00 pm EST

Based on the stories coming out day two of camp, it is very clear that Tyler Moeller will not be available for the 2009 season.  Coach Tressel told reporters today he originally feared Moeller would not play football again but now expects the junior to rejoin the team sometime in the future.

A source close to the Ohio State program said Moeller was in Florida with his family when he was punched at a bar, fell and hit his head. He was not immediately hospitalized but suffered an apparent seizure last week and was admitted to OSU Medical Center for tests.  Moeller's attacker has been identified and likely faces charges.

"From what I gather, Tyler didn't have much to do with what happened," Tressel told reporters. "Would I be privy to talk about the whys and the wherefores? No, because there are extenuating circumstances that are ongoing. Needless to say, it's unfortunate."

Moeller, a projected starter at outside linebacker, was released from OSU Medical Center on Monday and is home in Cincinnati recuperating. He is doing "extremely well" after undergoing a procedure this weekend to relieve pressure on his brain.

Pryor Suffers Arm Injury
April 11, 2009 7:30 am EST

Not what anyone wants to hear but Terrelle Pryor showed signs of an injury in his throwing arm.  According to Columbus Dispatch reporter Tim May, Pryor suffered a strain in his passing arm during the practice prior to the kick scrimmage yesterday.  It occurred as he threw a deep ball to receiver Ray Small.  Pryor received treatment immediately, but was only able to come in for one more play.  He will have a few days off to rest as the spring practice schedule does not resume for the Buckeyes until Tuesday.

Prevention is the Cure
April 1, 2009 8:00 pm EST

Tomorrow Spring practice begins for the 2009 season.  Today Coach Tressel spoke with the media for about 90 minutes.  In addition to fielding the normal array of questions, Tressel offered up that a couple members of the squad that will be sitting out of the drills.  JB Shugarts and Keith Wells will continue to stay out of contact.  And Lawrence Wilson is still coming back from the injury which cut short his 2008 campaign.  At this point there is no reason to believe they won't be ready for opening weekend in September.

Tyson Gentry Has Movement in Both Legs
February 27, 2009 5:00 pm EST

Tyson Gentry's father has reported in The Morning Journal of Lorain that Tyson has gained movement in both of his legs.  The former Buckeye football player was paralyzed during a spring practice three years ago.  This physical change began about three weeks ago.

"In his world, that is huge," Bob Gentry wrote in an e-mail to the paper.  "The neat part is that you don't have to stare and wonder if you saw them move.  That emotion is off the charts".

Shaun Lane Expecting Full Recovery
January 13, 2009 11:30 pm EST

Being strapped to a backboard and carted off the field obviously was not the way Shaun Lane saw his college football career ending.  As the senior leader of Ohio State's punt and kickoff coverage units, he made a reputation for his fearless assaults on blockers and return men. But his college playing days came to a crashing halt January 5th in the first half of the Fiesta Bowl, when a collision with Texas' Jordan Shipley left Lane almost motionless on the University of Phoenix Stadium field in Glendale, AZ.

"It was kind of scary when it first happened," Lane said. "The right side of my body went numb. I couldn't feel my leg or my arm. As I lay there my leg started to come back to me, but my arm -- I wasn't even sure my arm was still attached to my body. That's a weird feeling, believe me."

It was tough on his mother, Denella Stanford, who watched from the stands as teammates tried to help her son from the field and then OSU support personnel dealt with him. She didn't know then that he had suffered a severe stinger, the pinching of nerves in the neck and shoulder area, and not something more severe, such as a head or spinal injury.

Lane spent three nights in a Phoenix-area hospital, "the best one for that type of injury in that city, and they gave him the best doctor," Stanford said. "They were just remarkable in all the things they did for Shaun."

Lane returned to Columbus on Thursday, his right arm in a sling, to continue his recovery.  He was told he can expect a full recovery, and he plans to resume training to take a shot at persuading an NFL team to give him a chance as a special-teams performer and defensive back.

"I am going to recuperate as fast as I can so I can come back and hopefully make a difference in some other people's lives," said Lane, who graduated in December.

Or as Stanford said, "We're ready to continue on so we can get ready for the next level of whatever the Lord has in store for him. We believe in the ultimate healer, and Shaun is working daily with him. We might not have won the game, but we have a victory in this situation."
