Last Week: As bad as the Buckeyes finished in their game with USC, we were as equally poor with our predictions.  Rick managed a respectable 4-1 and would have been 5-0 had Tressel decided to manage the clock the last three minutes of each half. All of us but Rick were not suspecting UCLA to travel across the country and beat Tennessee, but that is just what the Bruins did. So Mr DeSutter has an early lead on the staff with an 8-2 start on the 2009 season.  Let's see if he can keep it going again in week 3.  Last week our picks were all over the place yet overall, the rest of the staff are pretty close, will see how things look overall after this week's game.

This Week:  How will the Buckeyes respond to yet another tough loss?  They are ranked 82nd in the country in scoring from the Red Zone.  This has to change starting this week.  Fortunately Toledo has one of the worse defenses in the country.  This may be just what Ohio State needs to get on the right track before starting the Big Ten slate next week.  As for the other games we are looking at this week, we will start in Blacksburg as the Nebraska Cornhuskers will be looking to make up for the 35-30 loss they suffered at the hands of Virginia Tech in Lincoln last year.  Will this be another big loss for the ACC or will the Hokies hold serve at home.  A big game for Big Ten pride will be played in South Bend when the Spartans try to win over the Irish for the third straight year.  Last year MSU held Notre Dame to just 16 yards rushing.  For grins we will be giving our comments on the FL-UT game where Tebow should be able to name his own score.  Or will Kiffin and company shock the nation.  Finally we head to Texas where the Longhorns will seek to revenge of their only 2008 loss as Texas Tech arrives to see what they can do without Michael Crabtree.  The winner will have a clear advantage in the Big 12 South as Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both already have non-conference losses.  Hopefully the Buckeye 50 staff has done their homework and we have better results with our picks this week compared to the first two weeks.

Here we go - Good Luck to All

2009
Record

Ohio State @
Toledo

(Gregg:  It used to be the national media putting pressure on the OSU program, now it is the local media and the loyal fans.  All we ask for here is change.  I think the Bucks come out with a lot to prove and take it out on the Rockets.  Unfortunately, taking it out on them simply means we may win by ten points.  Ohio State wins but not the way they are capable of doing.  I am tired of hearing players on the team getting interviewed saying "We are 25-1 against MAC schools, so this team can be dangerous".  IT IS TOLEDO!, go up to Cleveland and put it to them like a top caliber Big Ten school should. )

(Pete: When will the Buckeyes find their offensive swagger?  It's been missing since Troy Smith led OSU to the National Championship game.  The Buckeyes are lucky to be 1-1 instead of 0-2 and I promise the Rockets are chomping at the bit with visions of upset in their heads.  Don't look past this team because I'm not sure if the Buckeyes have the offensive heart to put them away like they so desperately need.  The defense will win this one but it's going to be uncomfortably close.  OSU 24 - UT 14)

(Rick: OSU WILL hold Toledo to a season low in a lot of categories.  Toledo is averaging 42 points
a game and should be happy to get 10 point in this game.  OSU by 24 points.)

(Joe-S-U: OSU over Toledo.  If the over would've been available (for entertainment purposes only, of
course) I'd have been all "over" it.  Bucks get back on track but those 24 points are looking good)

(Brent: Pick: OSU - Bucks flat, but come away with the victory)

(Steven: OSU… but it won’t be pretty.)

(WINNER : Ohio State)

Nebraska @
Va Tech

(Gregg: The Huskers should compete for the Big 12 North and it appears that Virginia Tech is no longer an elite team in a conference that is looking weaker as each week goes by.  Nebraska wins and keeps the ACC looking forward to basketball season.)

(Rick: I am lead to believe that VA Tech will be looking ahead to next week’s game against Miami and Nebraska DOES
remember what happened last year in Lincoln and that the Huskers will come out with a 14 point win.)

(Joe-S-U: Va. Tech over Nebraska- It's hard to do, but if I'm being completely honest I'll hang in
with the Bucks instead of wallowing through a decade of irrelevancy like Lincoln's having to do)

(Pete: Va Tech looks average and the Huskers are making strides at putting some painful
seasons behind them.  The Hokies might fall out of the Top 25.  NU 34 - VT 21)

(Brent: Pick: Nebraska - Pelini in process of getting Huskers back where they belong)

(Steven:  Nebraska further sullies the reputation of the ACC.)

(WINNER : Virginia Tech)

MSU vs.
Notre Dame

(Rick: I think Notre Dame will be all over MSU.  I think Coach Weis is on the hot seat and will run up this score to try to keep his job.)

(Gregg: My initial thought is Notre Dame should take care of business at home, but as I believe MSU is better than the Wolverines and Michigan beat the Irish, why wouldn't Michigan State.  Sparty bounces back from an unfortunate loss to pick up an underdog road win.)

(Pete: Dantonio is in deep trouble for the loss to a MAC team.  He will earn a lot of respect back this week if
he can upset the Irish.  Unfortunately for Sparty the Irish look like a BCS Bowl contender.  ND 42 - MSU 21)

(Steven:  I’d love to pick Sparty, but I don’t think their offense can keep up with the Irish.  ND by 7.)

(Joe-S-U: ND over MSU- Dino took a HUGE step back last week.  I don't know if the Spartans can stop
Clausen and Co., but if it's close down the stretch Fatty McButterpants may just hand it to Sparty)

(Brent: Pick: Notre Dame - Big Ten continues to struggle)

(WINNER : Notre Dame)

Tenn @
Florida

(Steven: I’m really having a tough time not picking Tennessee straight up.  This is one of those games where the favorite is
so poised for an upset…  but I’ll take Tennessee and the points… Florida will win but won’t cover the chasm of a spread. )

(Joe-S-U: Florida over Tennessee- I read a great article somewhere comparing Lane Kiffin to Sarah Palin.  Sure, he's energized
the Vols fan base, but at the end of the day he's going down.  Wonder if you can see Russia from Rocky Top?)

(Gregg:  With or without Coach Kiffin's comments against the Florida program, the Gators come out and show why they are #1.)

(Pete:  I'm all in a tizzy over this one.  The UF / UT soap opera is thick and juicy and I for one can't WAIT to see how it
plays out on the field.  The coaches genuinely do not like each other..a lot.  Make sure you watch all the press
conferences leading up to this one and don't miss the post game comments either.  UF 45 - UT 13 )

(Rick: This is my yawner of the week.  Florida will win by whatever the Coach wants too.)

(Brent: Pick: Florida - Gators smoke Vols)

(WINNER : Florida)

Texas Tech @
Texas

(Joe-S-U: Texas over Texas Tech- McCoy needs a big game to keep pace with Tebow in the Heisman voters' eyes, 'cause I gotta feel
if "The Messiah" and his coach can unload some numbers on Kiffin, they're going to.  At least Texas' ignorant maniac of a defensive coordinator won't have to embarrass himself trying to cover Crabtree man on man.)

(Rick: Texas will win a close game.  I am lead to believe Tech will be fired up for this game, up come up short in the end.)

(Pete: Since Michael Crabtree isn't going to play in the NFL this year, can he come back and suit up for this game?  It's the only
way that Tech will beat Texas and the 2010 Heisman winner Colt McCoy (I'm not too premature with this prediction, am I?)

Gregg: McCoy starts his Heisman campaign as he leads his team like a great quarterback should.)

(Brent: Pick: Texas - Sweet revenge for 'Horns)

(Steven: Texas in a shootout.)

(WINNER : Texas)
