Last Week: Well, are staff was going to succeed together or go down together based on our picks in Week 4. It was hard to imagine Oregon dominating Cal the way they did, not many would have saw Virginia Tech dominating the U (except for Brent of course), Mississippi was supposed to be the next great team in the SEC but they weren't, and revenge, night atmosphere, 'white-out' and the Lions, were supposed to be able to overcome the Hawkeyes. And who would have thought all the of the upsets would have occurred. At least of the Buckeyes did what they were supposed to do, yet in spite of of their second straight shut-out, they only moved up two spots in the polls when three teams above them lost.
This Week: The Buckeyes hit the road, for real this time, although I predict there will be many more fans present wearing Scarlet & Gray than Crimson & Cream. OSU has won 15 straight conference road games, two shy of the record, wouldn't it be nice to break that record in Happy Valley next month? Even though Indiana gave Michigan everything they could handle last week, we will have no problem taking care of business. The outcome may not be as cut and dry in East Lansing as the Spartans attempt to get things on track this season before it is over for them. They are looking for just their second victory, meanwhile, the Wolverines are 4-0 and moving up the polls. Does Dantonio have a plan to slow down the emerging Wolverine offense? In the SEC, the first big game will be next week when the Gators go to Baton Rouge, but this week LSU travels to Georgia to play the Bulldogs between the hedges. Georgia could be back in the National Title hunt with a win, but may not even win their division with a loss. In the Pac-10, we take a look at the USC-Cal game. USC is coming off the loss of their running back to injury, Cal is coming off a beat down at the hands of the Ducks. Which team will have the best recovery and stay in the hunt for the Pac-10 title. The losing team will pretty much be out of it. Finally we will predict the Oklahoma-Miami game. The Canes were riding high until they were completely shut down by the Hokies last week.
Here we go - Good Luck to All
2009
Ohio State @
Indiana
(Steven: As for Indiana, should we read anything into last week’s game up at the Big House? They gave the Wolverines almost more than they could handle? Given my predilection for drinking the Kool-Aid a little too heavily, (see Miami, Cal, PSU from last week) I’m going to be conservative and not believe the Hoosiers have become overnight world-beaters. OSU’s defense will, once again, be the star of the show, but I wouldn’t expect another shutout, (but neither would I be surprised if one magically happened). OSU wins handily 38-10.)
(Gregg: The Buckeyes find themselves in a game they would have no business losing and Tressel does not lose these type
of games. Unfortunately they also find themselves in need of impressing pollsters, and they don't also do that well.
Here is hoping the Bucks pour it on the Hoosiers and the defense pitches another shutout.)
(Rick: I do not think that OSU will get their 3 shut out, but Indiana will not score more than 7.)
(Pete: What's a Hoosier? A lowdown loser, that's what. The Michigan game
was an anomaly. IU will go back to stinking this week. OSU 35 - IU 6 )
(Joe-S-U: OSU over Indiana- I feel sorry for whoever was on the other end
of that gum that Bill Lynch threw after Michigan's phantom interception)
(Brent: Pick: OSU - Bucks roll Hoosiers)
(WINNER : Ohio State)
Michigan @
MSU
(Gregg: I still think the Spartans are better than they have shown, and the Wolverines are not as good as they have everyone thinking. Cowherd said today that Michigan will dominate the Big Ten by next year. We'll see. MSU wins at home in a close one.)
(Steven: The home field has been pretty kind this year. Also, Sparty is a better team than they have shown so far this year. A
win against Michigan might just keep Dantonio’s seat cool for the rest of the season… maybe. The question is, can they outscore
the Wolverines, or handcuff Forcier enough to where they have a shot to win? I say they pull the upset. MSU 24-20.)
(Joe-S-U: Michigan over Michigan State- George Carlin had a routine where he lamented the lack of zombies in
society. "What about zombies? Where are all the zombies? That's the problem with zombies - they're
unreliable". Substitute Michigan State for zombies in that routine and the same thing applies.)
(Pete: This is it for Sparty. The entire season hinges on this game. Beat Michigan and
all is forgiven for the crappy way 2009 has started. Sparty wins! MSU 21 - UM 20)
(Brent: Pick: Michigan State - Wolverines survived last week; they won't this week)
(Rick: I think Michigan will come out firing and will in a blow out.)
(WINNER : Michigan State)
LSU @
Georgia
(Pete: Two teams going in opposite directions. The Bulldogs can't handle the Tigers. LSU 28 - Georgia 17)
(Rick: This will be a high scoring game with the home team coming out on top. Georgia by 3.)
(Steven: Is there going to be a hangover for the Tigers this week? Was LSU’s defense exposed last week, or did they
rise to the occasion when it counted? Certainly it is a bit of both. Even so, I’m not sold on UGA. LSU 29-27.)
(Gregg: I will give the edge to the home team. I still believe the Bulldogs are not as good as last year, but LSU
has struggled against Washington, almost lost to Mississippi State and may be looking ahead to the Gators.)
(Joe-S-U: Georgia over LSU- Tigers will be the latest Top 5 team to take a tumble)
(Brent: Pick: Georgia - Down goes another top 5 team)
(WINNER : LSU)
USC @
California
(Steven: Cal was exposed mightily last week. Should this mean that we write them off? I, (and much of the college football pundits) did that to Oregon and they blew me and the Bears away. Go figure. Remember, past performance should not be taken as a predictor of future results. I think Coach Tedford will have Cal prepared and angry this week. If they can run the ball, (which means not getting down early), they can control the game. Cal beats USC in a tight one 21-17.)
(Pete: Do either of these teams want to win? At least when Ohio State loses, it's to a ranked opponent. Cal 34 - USC 28 )
(Joe-S-U: Cal over USC- Say what you want about the AP poll not being pertinent, they have it right.
Meanwhile, the coach's poll, WHICH DETERMINES PART OF THE BCS!!!!!- has Cal ahead of Oregon,
Penn State ahead of Iowa and Oklahoma State ahead of Houston. Dopes)
(Gregg: I picked Cal last week over Oregon and was very wrong, going to try them again.)
(Rick: I think Cal will win by late touchdown. As much as I want USC to will to
help out Ohio State’s chances in the polls, I just do not see it happening.)
(Brent: Pick: USC - Trojans get back on track)
(WINNER : USC)
Oklahoma @
Miami
(Steven: I blame the rain for Jacory Harris’s poor performance in Blacksburg. But unlike the soggy Mr. Juice Williams, I believe
Harris will bounce back. I’m still on the Miami bandwagon, and at home, with Oklahoma’s second string QB starting, I’m given
to like to U. Miami 35-28.)
(Pete: Do I have to watch this game? The "U" makes me want to spew and the Sooners are ...um... what rhymes
with Sooner? Orange? no...I've apparently run out of pitty wuns...I mean witty puns... OU 17 - Miami (Fla) 14)
(Joe-S-U: Oklahoma over Miami- Kudos out the ying-yang to the 'Canes for their early schedule
(unlike their chickens**t brethren in Gainesville), but Sooners have a few more horses)
(Rick: Even though the Big 12 is overrated as a conference, OU will win in an easy fashion.)
(Gregg: Sooners are too big and too deep for the upstart Hurricanes.)
(Brent: Pick: Oklahoma - Miami exposed yet again)
(WINNER : Miami)
